COMMUNITY & SPECIAL EVENTS

Ohio Scholarship Committee Activities

Whitewater rafting, a Jim Tressel autographed football, tickets to the Columbus Symphony and hotel package, a paddlewheel boat ride, overnight accommodations and dinner at the historic Marietta Hotel, and tickets to a home Ohio State football game. These are some of the items that will be available at the Scholarship Committee silent auction. You will be able to make your bid on one or more items at the Scholarship Committee table located in the registration area. If you are not the silent auction type, find a tall OACRAO colleague and stop by to purchase some tickets for the “Split-the-Pot” drawing. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for an arm’s length. Hence the need to find a tall colleague – or at least one with long arms! All proceeds will benefit the Leadership and Service Scholarship funds. The winners will be announced on Friday morning. You need not be present to win.

You can also make a direct contribution to the OACRAO Leadership and Service Scholarship fund by indicating the amount of your contribution on your conference registration form and enclosing the amount with your registration fee. Contributions will also be accepted during the annual meeting at the Scholarship Committee table.

Thanks to the generosity of many OACRAO members and the support of the OACRAO Executive committee, five outstanding students received a $500 Leadership and Service Scholarships this year. Your continued support will help make the promise of higher education a reality for some of Ohio’s future community leaders.

Charitable Contributions

Each year OACRAO asks the members who are attending the conference to contribute to a local charity. This year we have selected The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton as the recipient of our charitable donations, and we will be collecting new toys or age appropriate videos to donate to this worthy organization. The patients who are admitted to The Children’s Medical Center receive the finest medical treatment, emotional support and loving care available anywhere. But children in the hospital have other special needs that are met through the generosity of individuals and organizations throughout the Miami Valley. Your gift of a new toy can go a long way toward brightening a child’s hospital stay.

The Children’s Medical Center has provided the following list of suggested items from which to choose. The items will be used for birthday presents, Christmas presents and to stock the play areas and waiting areas.

New release videos for all ages are always needed.
In greatest need are new release videos for adolescents (PG-PG13).
Feature length Disney videos are very popular with many of the patients.
